Choose a gaming monitor and peripherals for your PC

Choose the screen around your games and graphics card, then complete the desk with controls and audio that suit how you play.

Choose the display with the graphics card

Resolution determines the number of pixels the GPU needs to render. Refresh rate describes how often the display can update; it does not guarantee that the PC will render that many new frames. Use your intended games, settings and current independent GPU tests when selecting the pair.

A screen bought for fast competitive play can have different priorities from one shared between games, office work and films. Consider size, viewing distance, response behaviour, adjustable mounting and the connections you will use.

For an OLED desk, start with the OLED monitor buying guide. If the same screen handles a full working day, use the OLED-versus-IPS desk comparison to decide whether to keep a separate work display.

Choose controls for your hands and desk

Mouse shape, weight, button placement and room to move matter more than the largest advertised sensitivity number. For a keyboard, consider layout, switch feel, noise, key placement and how much desk space it leaves for the mouse.

Wireless controls can reduce cable clutter, but add charging or battery management. Wired controls are straightforward when the cable route does not snag. Buy for a practical preference you can describe.

Decide where the sound should go

A headset keeps game audio private and can combine listening with a microphone. Speakers can be more comfortable for shared listening and longer desk sessions, but need space and a suitable room. A separate microphone adds another mounting and connection decision.

Check connections and configure the screen

Match the GPU output, cable and monitor input to the intended mode. The same monitor can support different combinations of resolution, refresh rate and features on different inputs. Read its manual and set the refresh rate in Windows after installing the graphics driver.

Connect the display and set its refresh rate →

Keep the complete cost visible

Check whether the display includes the cable you need and whether the PC has the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or audio connections your peripherals require. Reserve room for essential items before committing the full budget to the tower.

Plan a complete setup budget →

Match the desk to the computer

Choose the hardware in the gaming build guide, the design build guide or the everyday work build, then include the screen and peripherals in the same budget.

Sim-racing screens and controls

Choose sim-racing monitors for a single screen, triples or an ultrawide, then compare beginner steering wheels and pedals with the mounting included in the purchase plan.
