Privacy notice

This notice explains how PC Builders Guide handles information when you browse the guides or contact us. Updated 7 October 2026.

Who is responsible

PC Builders Guide is operated by James Thompson. Use the contact page for a privacy question, a request about your information or a complaint. Include enough detail to identify the request, but do not send passwords, payment details or unnecessary sensitive information.

Enquiries and correspondence

When you send a message, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address and enquiry. The contact form uses SureForms within WordPress and can retain a copy in the site database as well as sending an email notification.

We use this information to respond, investigate a correction and maintain necessary correspondence. The basis is our legitimate interest in handling enquiries and running the website. We do not add an enquiry sender to a marketing list merely because they contacted us.

Website operation and service providers

Website hosting and email providers process information needed to deliver pages, maintain security and handle correspondence. Technical records can include IP addresses, request times, browser information and error or security logs. These support operation, troubleshooting and prevention of abuse.

The website uses WordPress, Astra, Elementor and SureForms. Assets and services used to deliver a page may involve their providers receiving the connection information needed to serve them. Logged-in administration has its own operational cookies and security requirements. Read the cookie notice for the distinction between site operation and optional tracking.

Paid links and other websites

Amazon links include our Associates tracking identifier. When you follow one, you visit Amazon or its seller pages, which handle activity under their own privacy and cookie notices. We do not receive your payment information from a normal affiliate purchase.

Read the affiliate disclosure. External manufacturer and review links also lead to services with their own notices.

The budget calculator

The basket calculator performs its totals in your browser. Its code does not send or store the figures you enter. Ordinary technical information involved in loading the webpage is separate from those calculator inputs.

Retention and access

We retain enquiry information for the time needed to deal with the matter and any related follow-up, dispute or applicable record-keeping requirement. Security and operational records are retained according to their purpose and the relevant service arrangements. Information should be removed when it is no longer needed for those purposes.

Access is limited to the operator and service providers involved in running the site and handling the enquiry. Necessary records can also be disclosed when required by law. We do not sell enquiry details.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, deletion or restriction and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Other rights, including portability, apply where their conditions are met. We may need proportionate information to verify a request.

Contact us first through the contact page. You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes to the site

We review this notice when collection or service arrangements change. New optional analytics, marketing or embedded services need an appropriate notice and, where required, a consent mechanism before they are used.
