Cookie notice

Cookies and similar technologies can support website functions or track activity. Their purpose determines how they should be handled. Updated 7 October 2026.

Operational website functions

WordPress can use cookies for logged-in users and administration, including authentication and checking whether the browser accepts cookies. These are separate from reading the public articles. Hosting and security services can also use necessary technology to deliver and protect the site.

The site’s contact and page-building functions use WordPress plugins. A necessary operational function is not permission to add optional advertising or analytics tracking.

Optional tracking

This build does not add a Google Analytics account, advertising pixel or newsletter tracking system. Installed plugins and future changes still need to be checked against their actual configuration; installing a plugin alone does not describe all of its data processing.

Optional tracking that requires consent should remain off until the visitor makes a valid choice. A notice alone does not supply that consent.

Amazon and external links

Following a paid Amazon link takes you to Amazon, where its own cookie and privacy choices apply. Our tracking identifier is part of the link. Manufacturer and review websites also manage their own technologies.

Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial links; the privacy notice explains information handling on this website.

Calculator inputs

The budget calculator does not use cookies or browser storage to save your entered prices. Closing or reloading its page clears the unsaved inputs.

Browser controls and questions

Your browser can show and remove stored website data and block cookies. Blocking operational cookies can affect login or other functions. Controls for another website need to be managed for that website.

For a question about this site’s use of cookies or a technology you have observed, use the contact page and identify the page and browser. The ICO’s cookie guidance explains the UK distinction between necessary functions and optional tracking.
