Best Steering Wheels and Pedals for Beginners in 2027

For a new PC racing setup, my direct-drive starter choice is the MOZA R5 Pro bundle. I’d choose the Logitech G29 when the price saving makes it the better first purchase, or the G923 bundle when you want its three-pedal setup, TRUEFORCE support and the linked shifter package. Buy the mounting arrangement with the controls.
Table of Contents
ToggleChoose your first wheel and pedal set
| Best for | My choice | Why I’d choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall direct-drive starter | MOZA R5 Pro bundle | 6Nm R5 Pro, ES Lite wheel, two pedals and table clamp. |
| Best budget route when the saving is worthwhile | Logitech G29 wheel and pedals | Gear-driven wheel and three pedals in one starter package. |
| Best three-pedal and shifter package here | Logitech G923 wheel, pedals and shifter bundle | G923, three pedals and shifter in the exact linked bundle. |
A proper force-feedback wheel changes the controls you use to race. The most useful first purchase is a complete set you can mount securely and use comfortably. Leave space in the budget for a stand or pedal restraint if the desk does not already provide it.
This shortlist is for PC. Console compatibility depends on the exact wheel variant; a PlayStation-compatible version and an Xbox-compatible version can both run on PC but are not interchangeable for the consoles.
Best overall starter: MOZA R5 Pro bundle
The MOZA R5 Pro bundle is the direct-drive starter I’d choose for a new PC rig. The current Pro bundle uses a 6Nm wheelbase, an ES Lite wheel and an SR-P Lite2 throttle/brake set. It includes a table clamp, so it provides a coherent starting package rather than just a wheelbase.
The wheel is driven directly by the motor instead of through the gear-drive route in the Logitech starters. I’d choose it when I intend to keep racing and the budget can cover a solid mounting arrangement as well as the controls. Start with manageable force settings while establishing the seating position.
The two-pedal set is suited to paddle-shift racing. A clutch is a separate addition if you want one. The SR-P Lite2 pedals use Hall sensors; they are not a load-cell brake set. A spring/performance-kit upgrade and a load-cell brake are different purchases.
Do not confuse the R5 Pro with the older5.5Nm R5 bundle. The wheel, pedals and matching accessory parts differ. Use the current Pro specification and compatible Lite2 accessories for this linked package.

Best budget route: Logitech G29
The Logitech G29 wheel and pedals is the complete lower-cost route I’d compare for a first desk rig. It provides force feedback, paddle shifters and a throttle, brake and clutch pedal set. The PC/PlayStation variant is the one discussed here.
Its gear-driven design is a different class of starter from direct drive. I would choose it because the full purchase is affordable and convenient, rather than because its model name is newer or its features match a premium wheelbase.
The brake has resistance, so give the pedal set a surface or mount that stops it sliding. A carpet grip can help on an appropriate floor; a proper stand or anchored tray is the more predictable route when hard flooring or a wheeled chair lets everything move.
Compare the delivered set price against the R5 Pro and G923 packages. The G29 is the budget pick only when the saving is worthwhile. If another suitable set is cheaper during a promotion, let the full basket change the decision.

Best three-pedal/shifter package: Logitech G923
The Logitech G923 wheel, pedals and shifter bundle is the linked G923 package with pedals and a Driving Force shifter. It is useful when you want a clutch and a separate shifter included in the initial purchase rather than adding them later.
TRUEFORCE is a supported-game feature, so judge it against the racing titles you use. It does not turn the G923 into a direct-drive wheel. Compare the package contents and controls you want, not just the presence of another feedback label.
The base G923 product and a retailer bundle containing a shifter are different baskets. Our linked recommendation is the wheel/pedals/shifter bundle; do not assume every G923 listing contains the same extras.
I would choose it for that complete control package when its price fits the budget. If paddle-shift racing is your focus and you do not need a clutch or H-pattern shifter, the R5 Pro is my stronger starting direction.

Mounting can make the better first upgrade
Put the wheel where your elbows can stay comfortably bent and your shoulders are not reaching forward throughout the race. Fit the clamp to a solid suitable surface, with space for the unit and its cables behind the rim.
The pedal unit and seat must stay in place under braking. A firmer brake makes a moving tray or wheeled chair more noticeable. Anchor the pedals and choose a stand or cockpit that supports the intended wheelbase forces.
Before choosing a load-cell pedal upgrade, sort the mounting. A brake designed around pressure is more useful when the pedal base and seat provide a stable reference. On PC, separate USB pedal sets can be a route where the specific pedals and sim support it; console connection rules are different.
A wheel stand can be practical for a shared room, but include its folded space and movement in the decision. The best-looking cockpit picture is not useful if you have nowhere to put the setup after a session.
What to buy now and what to add later
| Stage | Buy or improve | Why I’d do it then |
|---|---|---|
| First controls | Complete force-feedback wheel and pedals | You can start driving without piecing together a base-only package |
| Before serious braking | Stable wheel, pedals and seating | The controls remain in one position |
| For manual cars | Compatible clutch and shifter | Only if that driving style needs them |
| For a stronger long-term rig | Direct drive or a supported pedal upgrade | Match the upgrade to the mounting and preferred games |
| For cockpit immersion | Suitable screens or a VR setup | Choose the view and PC together |
Keep a sound starter wheel while improving the part that annoys you most. If the pedals move, fix the mount. If the screen is distant and hard to see, fix its position. If you are ready for a new wheelbase, compare the compatible wheel, pedals and mount as a complete upgrade.
Install the manufacturer software and firmware, then calibrate steering and pedals in the game. Set the supported rotation and avoid force-feedback clipping by raising the force gradually. Once the controls are settled, choose the iRacing tower or build the complete sim-racing PC.
