Match monitor resolution and refresh rate to your PC

I choose a monitor around the desk, the image I want and the games I play. Resolution sets the detail and graphics workload; refresh rate shapes how motion looks. A useful pairing leaves enough budget for both the screen and GPU.

Choose the gaming graphics tier in the gaming GPU guide. For a design desk, the graphic-design build guide places the display and colour-work priorities alongside the parts.

Compare the screen size at your normal viewing distance and the text size you use for everyday work. Higher resolution can provide more detail, but small text may need scaling.

Common 1080p, 1440p and 4K dimensions are 1920×1080, 2560×1440 and 3840×2160. Increasing resolution raises the pixel workload; compare GPU tests at the intended settings.

Use the FPS/frame-time guide when matching the display target to GPU results. The graphics-card overview keeps resolution, features and card cost together.

Match the screen target to an AM5 gaming starting build in PC Builder, then adjust its graphics choice and estimated tower budget.

If OLED is on your shortlist, use the 1440p vs 4K OLED comparison to weigh pixel density, GPU demand and desk size together.

Refresh rate does not create rendered performance

A 144Hz display can update up to 144 times per second in the selected mode. It does not make a slow-rendering PC produce 144 new game frames. Look at consistent delivery and responsiveness as well as the average.

Variable refresh can coordinate display updates with supported frame delivery. Check the monitor/GPU combination and the actual connection rather than assuming a marketing label guarantees every mode.

Balance motion with mixed desk use

For competitive games, check measured response behaviour at the refresh range you expect to use. For reading and other work, consider text clarity, brightness control and stand adjustment.

A quoted “1ms” figure can refer to a particular method or strobing mode. It is not a complete description of every pixel transition or the quality of motion.

For a shared work-and-gaming desk, compare OLED with IPS. Within OLED, the QD-OLED versus WOLED guide separates panel type from coating, text and connection choices.

Configure the finished setup

Connect to the intended graphics output, check the monitor’s supported input modes and select the refresh rate in Windows Advanced display. Microsoft’s current instructions explain that the available modes depend on display support.

Adjust the Acer EK241YG’s position and brightness for the room, then select the intended refresh setting in both the system and display controls. Get text and brightness comfortable before settling into a long session.

Choose the pair before the basket

Read the GPU/resolution guide and the affordable monitor comparison. Keep a suitable screen inside the complete setup budget.

For a racing cockpit, compare the monitor shortlist and the native pixel counts for triple screens.

For a creative display, compare Best Monitors for a Photography PC. For a focused competitive desk, use Best Monitors for an Esports PC. The wider build guides keep the graphics and monitor purchase together.

Choose the new monitor and its connection

The monitor shortlist separates affordable gaming, 4K work and OLED priorities. For a laptop-sharing desk, use the USB-C display guide and the dock comparison before choosing the connection.

Finish the mount measurements and the creative colour workflow where those tasks apply.
