Buy the screen for the PC you are building and the work you will see on it every day. My starting choices are the AOC 24G4X for an affordable 1080p gaming desk, Dell S2725QC for a sharp 4K work screen, and Alienware AW2725D for a premium high-refresh OLED gaming setup.
Table of Contents
ToggleThe shortlist: choose for your setup
| Use | My choice | Why choose it | Choose another when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget 1080p gaming | AOC 24G4X | A 23.8-inch 1080p IPS screen with a 180 Hz maximum and an adjustable stand. | You need a larger 4K workspace or are buying specifically for OLED contrast. |
| 4K work and mixed use | Dell S2725QC | A 27-inch 4K 120 Hz IPS screen with USB-C display input and up to 65 W laptop charging. | You need more laptop charging power or want a dedicated competitive OLED screen. |
| Premium OLED gaming | Alienware AW2725D | A 27-inch 2560×1440 QD-OLED panel with a 280 Hz maximum refresh rate. | The desk mainly shows static office content or the GPU budget is already stretched. |
These are different buying routes rather than three interchangeable upgrades. The shortlist compares published resolution, refresh rate, connections and panel type; it does not assign unmeasured response-time or colour-accuracy scores.
Budget 1080p gaming: AOC 24G4X
The 24G4X makes sense when the screen should leave more of the budget for the PC. The compact 1080p format suits a first gaming desk, and the height-adjustable stand gives you a useful setup feature immediately.
Connect it through a suitable DisplayPort or HDMI route and select the intended refresh rate in Windows. A 180 Hz screen is a display target: use comparable GPU results to decide what your games and settings will deliver.
Once you have chosen the screen target, plan the AM5 tower in PC Builder. Keep the monitor cost separate from its tower estimate.
4K work and mixed use: Dell S2725QC
Choose the S2725QC for a desk that spends plenty of time on text, spreadsheets and creative applications. The 4K workspace is the main attraction; use Windows scaling to make menus readable at your preferred distance.
Its USB-C connection combines video and charging with a compatible laptop. A desktop gaming PC normally connects from the graphics card through HDMI instead. Read the USB-C display compatibility guide if you want to share this monitor between the tower and a laptop.
Premium OLED gaming: Alienware AW2725D
The AW2725D is the route for someone deliberately buying OLED and a high-refresh 1440p gaming screen. It is a more focused purchase than paying for 4K simply because the pixel count is higher. Match the exact AW2725D model: nearby Alienware names cover different sizes and refresh rates.
Follow the display’s OLED care and maintenance instructions, and keep its automatic care functions available. For an all-day spreadsheet desk, I would start with the IPS work option. For this gaming route, spend the rest of the budget on the GPU pairing that serves the chosen games.

Choose the specialist route when it changes the job
A photographer should start with the photography-monitor guide and a colour-managed workflow. For a cockpit, the sim-racing shortlist addresses a different desk and field of view. Competitive players can compare the esports options.
Measure depth as well as width. A large screen can be uncomfortable when the desk leaves no room to move it back. A compatible monitor arm helps with positioning but still needs a sound mounting surface.
Finish the setup
Choose the display cable and output, set resolution, refresh and scaling, then organise the keyboard and mouse around a comfortable screen position.

If the screens will run from a ready-made small computer, plan the mini-PC dual-monitor connections before choosing adapters or a dock.
