Use the motherboard overview to separate socket, chipset and exact-model features. Check the usable PCIe/M.2 combinations and the case/header connections before ordering.

Buy the motherboard for the processor, case and connections you need. The Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX is a practical AM5 tower starting point; the MSI B850M Gaming Plus WiFi6E gives a compact AM5 route. A Premiere build around the Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus needs an LGA1851 board such as the MSI Z890 Gaming Plus WiFi instead.

Before comparing features, use the CPU, BIOS and memory compatibility checklist. The processor guide keeps the complete platform cost in view.

Choose the socket before comparing extras. AM4, AM5 and LGA1851 are separate routes. DDR4 and DDR5 are also physically different memory types. A board with a more expensive chipset cannot make the wrong processor or memory fit. Keep those three lines together in the shopping list.

Choose the purpose below for the direct shortlist. Each section also links to its detailed buying guide and the complete matching PC build. If you are starting from an empty desk, use the beginner’s complete PC guide first.

Planning a new AM5 system? PC Builder brings the motherboard, CPU and DDR5 memory together with the rest of the tower and its estimated cost.

Best motherboards for gaming

I’d start the ordinary gaming tower with the B650 Eagle AX and put the remaining money into graphics performance. A premium board is worthwhile when it supplies a feature the build needs, such as a particular connection or expansion layout. It does not turn the same CPU and GPU into a different performance class merely through its chipset badge.

Best motherboards for graphic design and photo editing

A design motherboard should connect the working desk without taking money away from memory and the display. I’d choose the Eagle AX for the straightforward 9700X tower, then count the card reader, external drives, drawing tablet and other USB devices you leave attached. If those require a particular fast USB mode, buy that specification deliberately instead of judging by the number of sockets alone.

The dedicated Premiere media basket uses the Z890 Gaming Plus WiFi because the 270K Plus needs the Intel LGA1851 platform. Confirm the Plus processor’s exact BIOS support, and keep DDR5 in the same plan. The AM5 boards are alternatives for the Ryzen basket; they cannot accept the Intel processor.

Best motherboards for blender and 3d rendering

For a workstation with several drives and a large GPU, I’d examine the Aorus board’s layout first. The overall choice here is about room for the working system and its connections, not a promise that the board itself speeds up a render. For a single-GPU learning build, the Eagle AX keeps more budget available for the Nvidia card and RAM.

Best motherboards for everyday work

For an office PC without a graphics card, the motherboard’s display outputs matter directly. Pair the board with the 9600X’s integrated graphics, then match the HDMI and DisplayPort modes to the displays you want. The compact MSI’s published outputs support up to 4K 60Hz with the appropriate CPU; that is a specific display planning fact, not an assumption that every port supports every screen mode.

Best motherboards for quiet and compact builds

For the A3 basket, I’d choose the B850M Gaming Plus WiFi6E. Micro-ATX gives a useful smaller footprint while keeping four memory slots and two M.2 sockets. It also avoids pretending that the full ATX Eagle can fit the compact enclosure. Check the lower header access with the selected GPU before installing the card.

Match the choice to the rest of the build

Match the exact processor and motherboard revision to the CPU support page. A newer Ryzen model may require a newer BIOS even when the socket is correct. For micro-ATX builds choose a micro-ATX board; for the Intel 270K Plus choose LGA1851. Read the manual’s memory slot order, front-panel header map and any storage lane-sharing rules before assembling.
