The restrained 9600X route is my first choice when the graphics card and television workload deserve the budget. A slim case limits cooler choice, so keep the processor and power plan deliberate. Premium CPU spend belongs behind a defined gaming requirement rather than making the room’s cooling problem harder. Here is the shortlist I would use, with the lower-cost and more capable routes kept alongside the complete living-room gaming setup.

The shortlist
Best forMy choiceWhy it fits
Best restrained gaming foundationRyzen 5 9600XSix cores keep the compact system’s cost and cooling plan sensible.
Best mixed living-room desktopRyzen 7 9700XEight cores make sense when the machine also has substantial non-gaming use.
Best premium gaming-first alternativeRyzen 7 9850X3DChoose it when the gaming requirement and actual compact cooling plan justify the step.

Start with the shortlist below, then use the complete build guide to match your choice to the rest of the setup.

Compare an AM5 processor with its motherboard and the rest of the tower in PC Builder. The whole-build estimate helps you balance CPU spending against graphics and storage.

Best restrained gaming foundation: Ryzen 5 9600X

Six cores keep the compact system’s cost and cooling plan sensible.

The Ryzen 5 9600X is the AM5 route I would start with when the graphics card, storage or specialist equipment deserves more of the budget. Its six-core layout is a sensible foundation for a focused desktop rather than a machine bought to run every heavy task at once.

Pair it with DDR5 and an AM5 board with the right BIOS. An inexpensive tower cooler makes sense in a normal case; a tiny enclosure needs a separate cooler and power plan.

Best mixed living-room desktop: Ryzen 7 9700X

Eight cores make sense when the machine also has substantial non-gaming use.

The Ryzen 7 9700X is my middle route: eight cores without making a flagship processor the centre of the whole purchase. I would choose it for a machine that needs to stay useful while several applications are open, and put the remaining money into the parts that hold the actual project.

Use a matched two-stick DDR5 kit. If the PC spends its day on sustained processing, give the cooler a sensible fan curve and keep the case intake clear rather than relying on short boost specifications.

Best premium gaming-first alternative: Ryzen 7 9850X3D

Choose it when the gaming requirement and actual compact cooling plan justify the step.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is the premium gaming-first route. I would reserve it for a build where the CPU-side workload and a capable graphics card justify the extra spend, rather than making it the default in every gaming shopping list.

Compare the complete tower, including the monitor. Choose the less expensive AM5 route if the saved money moves the graphics card or display into the tier you actually need.

How I would choose between these routes

Keep interactive responsiveness and repeated parallel jobs separate in the decision. More cores are worth buying when useful work can occupy them; they are a weak reason to make the processor the most expensive part of a lightly loaded desktop. Choose the complete platform, then give memory, graphics and storage enough of the budget to support it.

The suggested Ryzen choices use AM5 and DDR5. Compare the complete platform, including the board, memory, cooler and useful connections. Keep those supporting parts together when changing the processor route.

Match the purchase to the actual workload

Start with the television’s supported input modes and the place the PC will live. A shelf, open stand and closed cabinet are very different cooling environments. List the seating distance, controller connection and a way to reach the desktop when a game or launcher needs it. A powerful tower is useful only if the room lets it breathe and the controls work reliably from the sofa.

The supporting parts I would put beside it

32GB is the focused gaming capacity. Choose the whole kit at the start because the ITX board has two slots. Keep memory and cooler clearance in view if choosing a larger low-profile heatsink later.

Set the television’s supported PC/game mode, resolution and refresh rate, then configure HDR or VRR if the whole path supports them. Pair the controller and test from the seating position. Keep a straightforward desktop-access route for the games and launchers that still need a mouse or keyboard.

Compare the complete basket for the chosen route and keep the exact variant in the order. Use the wider processors guide for the underlying choice, or return to the complete living-room gaming build for the supporting purchases.
