Use the power-supply fit and load guide alongside this shortlist. Modular cable compatibility and efficiency versus wall power settle the connection and running-power details.

Video workloads can keep both CPU and GPU busy for sustained periods, so I’d plan the PSU around the complete workstation instead of only a nominal GPU wattage. The RM850e is the balanced editing route here. The 1000W Pure Power alternative belongs with the heavier CPU/GPU and expansion plan, where the extra capacity has a defined purpose.

Best overall balanced editing tower: Corsair RM850e (2025)

The Corsair RM850e (2025) is my mainstream modern tower route. Its 850W capacity, modular wiring and native 12V-2×6 cable make it useful with the premium Nvidia shortlist. For the three-8-pin Radeon model, check the supplied compatible cable provision and card wiring instructions. Keep the exact 2025 model and its cable set together rather than assuming every RM850e generation is identical.

Why I’d choose it: 850W modular route for the Intel and midrange Nvidia basket.

Keep in the build plan: 850W; ATX 3.1; modular; native 12V-2×6 lead.

Best heavier CPU/GPU workstation: be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000W

The be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000W is the higher-capacity modular alternative for a demanding CPU/GPU workstation. I’d choose it when the whole build and upgrade plan justify the capacity, rather than installing it automatically in a low-load office PC. Its semi-passive feature is one part of fan behaviour; installed acoustics still depend on load and ventilation.

Why I’d choose it: 1000W alternative for the premium configuration.

Keep in the build plan: 1000W; ATX 3.1; modular; higher-power workstation route.

Best compact modest-power editing build: Corsair SF750 (2024)

The Corsair SF750 (2024) is the SFX route for the compact basket. It frees space for the case layout and supplies modern GPU wiring without the bulk of a full ATX unit. I’d pair it with the modest-power compact parts list rather than a card whose maker calls for 850W. Its shorter leads also need a sensible route through the chosen case.

Why I’d choose it: Use with a smaller-power basket and supported case.

Keep in the build plan: 750W; SFX; 2024 generation; modular modern-GPU wiring.

What matters for this build

Use the exact graphics-card manufacturer recommendation as a starting point, then account for the rest of the build and planned upgrades. A large factory-overclocked card can specify different power connections and capacity from a reference card using the same GPU. A cheaper PSU is not a saving if it cannot supply the required leads.

Modern GPU connectors change the shopping list. The RM850e (2025) includes a native 12V-2×6 lead, which makes it a straightforward route for the RTX 5080 shortlist. The Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC instead needs three 8-pin PCIe inputs. Count the available compatible cables and follow the card and PSU wiring instructions.

Modular wiring is useful for access and smaller cases, but the PSU end of a cable is not universally interchangeable. Use the supplied or explicitly approved SF750 leads and route the major connections before filling the case. Keep the cable set with the exact supply; do not borrow an old lead because the plug appears to fit.

ATX and SFX are physical formats. A small case may support one, both or neither without an adapter. An SFX supply can free cable space in a compact build, but shorter supplied leads may be inconvenient in a large tower. Choose the format and routing for the case before paying a small-form-factor premium.

Fit and installation checks

Use only the leads approved for the exact PSU. CPU EPS and GPU PCIe plugs are different even when both involve eight pins. Fully seat the GPU connector and leave the cable space specified by its manufacturer. Keep the intake ventilated, and never open the PSU enclosure to diagnose a fault.

Before changing the shortlist, use the parts-fit checklist. If a selected model is unavailable, make the replacement with the substitution checks so the connector, format or capacity does not change unnoticed.

Set up the part and finish the PC

Route the 24-pin board lead, CPU EPS lead and GPU leads before access becomes tight. Check latches and connector seating with the PC disconnected from mains power. Keep unused modular cables with the PSU for future changes, labelled so they cannot be mixed with another unit’s set.
