Before choosing from this shortlist, check the application’s acceleration route and project VRAM requirements. The GPU specification guide separates capacity from compute and bandwidth.

Use the software’s supported GPU path. I would start with a 16GB NVIDIA route for this workstation, then change tier according to the stage that matters. The 5090 changes graphics-memory capacity as well as the power and case plan; it belongs to a defined large workload, not every object scan. Here is the shortlist I would use, with the lower-cost and more capable routes kept alongside the complete photogrammetry and 3d scanning setup.

Best balanced NVIDIA processing route: MSI RTX 5070 Ti 16G Ventus 3X OC

A higher-tier 16GB NVIDIA route for supported GPU stages in substantial projects.

The MSI RTX 5070 Ti 16GB Ventus 3X OC is my higher-performance 16GB NVIDIA route. It is attractive when the software ecosystem stays the same but the graphics workload is becoming more demanding. It keeps the decision focused on usable rendering headroom rather than only the memory number.

This is a substantial card. Include length, slot thickness, power-cable space and the PSU in the purchase plan. A 16GB card remains a 16GB card even when its processing tier is higher.

Best accessible 16GB start: MSI RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Shadow 2X OC Plus

Start here when supported GPU processing and memory capacity matter more than premium speed.

The MSI RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Shadow 2X OC Plus is the accessible 16GB NVIDIA route. I would buy it when graphics-memory capacity and NVIDIA application support matter more than jumping straight to a much more expensive card. It is also a useful place to start a compact parts plan.

Keep the exact 16GB variant in the basket. The model name, dimensions and power connection belong in the fit check, particularly when a riser cable and a small case are involved.

Best larger graphics-memory route: Gigabyte RTX 5090 Gaming OC 32GB

32GB is a deliberate capacity choice for a workload that needs it and can use the card.

The Gigabyte RTX 5090 Gaming OC 32GB is the large-memory consumer NVIDIA route here. Its 32GB allocation is a materially different starting point from the 16GB cards when fitting local models or substantial GPU workloads is the priority.

Treat this as a complete high-power tower purchase: exact card dimensions, its power recommendation, the native power lead and room for that connector all matter. It is not the sensible first purchase for simply trying a few small local models.

How I would choose between these routes

Start with the required feature or workload, then select memory capacity and processing tier. A larger graphics-memory allocation and a faster card are different upgrades. Two cards can both have 16GB while offering different rendering headroom; neither becomes a larger-memory card because the model number is higher.

The exact board-partner model matters at purchase time. Include length, height, thickness, PSU recommendation, connector type and power-cable space in the layout. A premium graphics purchase may need a larger case and PSU, making the complete upgrade more expensive than the card alone.

Match the purchase to the actual workload

Keep capture quality and processing hardware separate. More computer does not repair a poorly covered scene or unsuitable source images. I would build a balanced processing workstation, keep the originals backed up and leave enough working storage for intermediate data and exports. When a stage repeatedly fills memory, capacity deserves the upgrade before buying a faster part that still cannot hold the project.

The supporting parts I would put beside it

Allow NVMe room for source images, intermediate data and exported meshes or textures. Keep original captures independently backed up before processing. Separating active work from the archive makes it easier to clear replaceable intermediates without deleting the source data.

Record the stage that occupies the time or fills memory. Upgrade for that actual limit rather than assume CPU, GPU and RAM all need replacing together. Keep the originals and final deliverables backed up independently of the working SSD.

Compare the complete basket for the chosen route and keep the exact variant in the order. Use the wider graphics cards guide for the underlying choice, or return to the complete photogrammetry and 3d scanning build for the supporting purchases.
