Choose a calibrator for the display technology and colour workflow you have. Calibrite Display SL is the standard-display starting point; Display Pro HL serves a broader modern-display workflow; Display Plus HL is for the higher-luminance and advanced video requirements that justify it.

Which option fits your desk or build?

Higher-luminance/video workflowCalibrite Display Plus HLThe specialist route for the supported high-luminance and video requirements in Calibrite’s comparison. You mainly edit standard SDR photos and would not use the additional capability.

The supported measurement range is not a target brightness for everyday editing. A more expensive sensor is worthwhile when its display/software support solves your task, not simply because its maximum number is larger.

Standard SDR creative desk: Calibrite Display SL

Display SL belongs on the list for someone establishing a repeatable SDR editing environment. Start with the display support in the manufacturer’s chart and the current software requirements, then choose appropriate targets for the room and intended output.

The useful result is a measured profile for the particular display and settings. Downloading someone else’s profile for a similarly named monitor does not measure your unit or your chosen brightness.

Modern photo/design displays: Calibrite Display Pro HL

Pro HL is the step up when the supported display technologies and profiling workflow make it relevant. The manufacturer lists measurement up to 3,000 nits; that ceiling describes sensor capability, not a sensible brightness for every desk.

Keep the monitor preset and brightness associated with the profile. If you later change the display’s colour mode, treat that as a changed setup and revisit the measurement rather than expecting the old profile to describe it.

Higher-luminance/video workflow: Calibrite Display Plus HL

Choose Plus HL around a defined workflow and software support. A calibrator should be part of a controlled environment: consistent room light, a stable monitor configuration and an application that handles the intended colour space.

For print matching, remember that the printer, paper, viewing light and output profile also matter. A measured monitor is one part of that chain rather than a replacement for checking the finished output.

The workflow is the upgrade

Turn off temporary colour shifts such as Night light while measuring and editing in the calibrated setup. Let the display settle according to its instructions, position the sensor correctly and use a relevant display technology selection.

Save the result with a recognisable name, set it for the intended monitor and verify it in the applications you use. Schedule remeasurement around the work rather than blindly changing a profile because the calendar changed.

Finish the setup

Follow the monitor calibration guide and choose a suitable creative display. Windows HDR Calibration is a different tool for the HDR setup; it does not replace a colourimeter measurement.
